We connected with three incredible women from the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) at this year’s Build a Dream's Dreamer Day! Tanya Daye (Truck & Coach Technician), Nadia Papineau (Light Rail Vehicle Technician) Apprentice, and Zoi (Truck & Coach Technician Apprentice), each sharing their unique path into skilled trades and transportation. They talked about how they got started, what inspired them to choose their trade, and the hands-on training that helped them build confidence in a field where women are still growing in representation. Hearing their stories showed students that there isn’t just one pathway into transit, there are many, each offering purpose, growth, and real impact. Their biggest advice to girls? Try everything. Explore the trades. Don’t underestimate what you’re capable of. We got to hear from students at this year’s Dreamer Day about how they were enjoying the conference! After chatting with them, they jumped into a hands-on session with a representative from Centennial College, where they got to try an electronic simulator and explore how engineering and technology come to life.
